I believe that such an image might help facilitate a subtler way of thinking about souls.  It seems possible for these to be able to fuse into a single coherent whole, while still retaining their separate individual essences, in ways that are constantly in flux—adapting to whatever needs we (or the universe at large) may have of them at any given moment.

With a view like this, we might be better able to envision a different way the “communications chain” of prayer works:  if we don’t specify who we’re trying to talk to, maybe the divine super-organism both understands our need and routes it to whatever individual soul(s) are best suited to respond to it.
