The golden retriever reached Kasha.  He sniffed her eagerly.  Although she trembled somewhat, she did not attempt to move away.

“Kasha!”

Paulina’s peremptory tone had no effect.  She set her jaw and pushed hard with her hands, attempting to move herself forward with only the strength of her arms.  It was  impossible.  Her eyes bulged in her dirt-smudged face.

Kasha's eyes were half-closed as the golden retriever circled to mount her.  The quivering in her legs had already stopped.

“Gabriela!” Paulina's voice erupted in a bellow, then trailed off hoarsely.

“Gabriela!  Come help chase this dog away!  Come now!  Gabriela!!”

Her hand waved the yellow can wildly in the air.
