Specialty car writers know what actually grabs us (and that's image).

Magazines like Car & Driver have a highly refined sense of what excites me.  In fact, over years of goggling at their luscious full-color layouts of super-hot, super-sleek, super-unattainable super-exotics, I've come to appreciate them as absolutely first-rate automotive pornography.

They also run reviews of cars that I might actually own someday.  Of course, unless I'm seriously hunting for a replacement of what I'm currently making payments on, I don't usually do much more than glance at these.  (Like I said, it's pornography.)

I've always had respect for what these publications have to say about all types of cars.  Lately, though, I've come to question even this small amount of faith.  I mean, what are they really saying that I can't tell for myself?
