Several quick snorts and a low yowl announced the return of the boxer.  He had taken up a new position this time, at the opposite corner of the yard.

Kasha circled in agitation.  Quivering, she approached the fence—then darted back in panic as the boxer's powerful body lunged toward her.

Paulina dragged out the hose and bore down on the nozzle.  Now that the dog was farther away, the water did not reach him with any force.  She shook the stream back and forth.  To the dog, this was merely an unpleasant sprinkling. He continued pawing at the fence and jumping against it.  He bellowed more urgently at Kasha.

Kasha became increasingly confused.  She began to shake seriously.

Paulina threw down the nozzle and strode into the house.
