I also dont want to become an ethnic minority. And is this really such an awful thing to feel? Who really does?
If wanting to be among one's one kind is an unnatural thing to feel, somebody had better tell the immigrants, because they appear more eager than anyone to cluster among people who are like themselves.
There are certainly practical reasons for such preferences. From my own point of view, one of these is that Id rather have as many as possible of the young people my kids come into contact with be realistic marriage prospects for them. Its not that Id adamantly oppose their marrying someone of another ethnic background. But in most cases, its just easier and more natural for us to marry people who are more like us.
Again, I dont think this is merely a "white bread" attitude.
To give just one example, an Indian friend recently described to me a development in his own community, involving young women becoming doctors, then finding that there arent enough Indian men of comparable status to make suitable husbandswhich leads them to marry non-Indians, which upsets just about everybody. It never occurred to me to call these people racist. I thought they were reacting in an entirely natural way.
And if they werent racists for their reactions and preferences, why should I feel like one for wanting the same sorts of things for my own children?
