McGinty smiled back
obligingly. He remained silent.
The executive cleared his throat. “Well, then. What is it that brings you here today?”
“My product,” answered McGinty. “It works.”
He disregarded Geiger’s stare.
“Tell me, sir, shouldn't the fact that we're having this conversation indicate something to you? Do you think I could be here talking with you, if a lot of people hadn't been extraordinarily nice to me?”
Geiger seemed to be attempting to formulate an answer.
McGinty charged ahead with his point. “You don't have to be all the way convinced at this point. All you have to be is curious enough to tell somebody to check my product out.”
He placed the sprayer decisively on the other man's desk. “Demand,” he said. “Think of the demand. You could make more money off this than all your other products combined.”
Burton folded his hands in front of him on the polished desktop. “Well, I, mmm, have to commend you on your initiative.”
McGinty wondered from the sound of his speech what kind of voice or even drama lessons he might have had. Somehow from the ring in his voice, it seemed as if he had said something of vast significance.
“Good presentation, too. I wish all of our salesmen did as well.”
McGinty nodded, accepting the compliment warily.
