Artist's Notes

This painting is a venture into combining elements of abstraction and impressionism.

The walkway, walls, and railing inject hard-edged linearity into an otherwise very loose and organic depiction.  And the simplicity of the compositional elements invites consideration of the painting from a non-pictorial standpoint.

The simplicity also enables the image to be generalized into something more than just one particular stretch of decking in one particular location.  I wanted to set the viewer's mind free to see beyond the literal components of the picture.
