Artist's Notes

It may just be my contrary nature that when I go to Palm Springs, what I'm drawn to isn't the posh resort areas, or the dramatic views from the aerial tramway at the top of San Jacinto.  It's the natural, semi-arid hills and mountains behind the town. 

I like the way the nearground wildflowers play off the rust-gold-brown mountains immediately behind, and how those mountains in turn transition into the purples and blues of the more distant peaks.

This painting is also an example of the "splotchillism" techniques I've worked with.
