Artist's Notes

Dark oaks on golden hillsides are emblematic of California, and juxtaposing the gold against the blue of the sky creates the colors associated with the University of California--and the state itself.

The simplicity of this composition, with its abstract as well as representational aspects, almost suggests to me a kind of alternative state flag.
