Artist's Notes
There’s something quintessentially Southern about this house. It’s not just the architecture; it’s the way the house relates to the land around it in such a natural and unforced manner.
The house doesn’t seem to currently have occupants, but it’s possible that somebody might be living there—just going about their business in a way that doesn’t disturb the land more than is necessary, without getting fussy about it.
I think the painting also provides some interesting tactile contrasts between the bristly feel of the pines and the softness of the background foliage and nearground wildflowers.
