Artist's Notes
This scene is very much about the interplay between the dark, solid, straight-edged forms of the hedge and house in the foreground, and the much lighter and more open shapes of the foliage and house in the background. This type of combination and contrast has come to interest me more and more lately.
The more geometric shapes suggest to me the unvarying rules of math and physics and the hard sciences that underlie our world, while the more open, organic shapes have to do with the spontaneity of living things in which the basic forces climax.
