Artist's Notes

A lot of people mistake this tower for a lighthouse.  It's not (what would a lighthouse be doing in the middle of an agricultural field?), but it's certainly a kind of beacon for me.

At a certain point in California history, people lavished a great deal of care and effort on making their farm water towers more than just utilitarian structures.  To me, this is one of the best examples.

It's almost an iconic object, mediating between the earth and the sky to provide the water that enables the land to bloom with crops.

I feel as if I ought to sacrifice a goat to it.
