Artist's Notes

This painting represents a very deliberate attempt to revive some of the depiction techniques of the original Impressionists.

When you look at paintings by, say, Claude Monet, you're immediately struck by the big, broad brushstrokes and vivid colors.  By contrast, in contemporary art that calls itself impressionistic, whenever I see appealingly massive brushwork, the painting usually turns out to be tiny.  (The artist wasn't particularly bold, he just couldn't help showing brushwork in the scale he was working with.)

In this painting, I saved my smaller brushes for a few details at the focal point, and let the bigger tools carry the load everywhere else.

The home belongs to one of our local city councilmen.  One day an obviously inebriated homeless person wandered into the condominium complex, got tired, and decided to lay down for a snooze on an inviting-looking set of steps.  He had the bad luck to have picked the home that was guaranteed to get an immediate response from our local police department.
