Artist's Notes

You wouldn't be the first person to think this scene looks more like Mississippi than California.

The large abandoned home by a levee calls up images of decaying plantation houses from the antebellum South. It speaks hauntingly of past grandeur...and of a life that today, we can only imagine.

What also struck me about the scene was the way the brooding darkness within the mansion contrasted with the brilliant sunlight reflecting off the water.  This type of contrast is everywhere in the  Delta.
