Artist's Notes

This water tower stands in stark contrast to the pristine white structure   mediating robustly between the heavens and the earth that I depicted in another painting.  This one represents more of the dark side--the pervasive neglect that you see everywhere around the Delta, with its overtones of decay and death.

There's also an ambiguity to this scene about the time of day that's reminiscent of an old low-budget Ed Wood horror flick.  If it's dusk, the brightness that still remains serves mainly to make us aware how soon it will be dark.  What will this place be like then?  Depending on how vivid our imaginations are, it could be anything from simple magnification of quiet creepiness to the horrific wildness of "A Night on Bald Mountain."

Then again, it could also be the middle of the day.  Do you feel any more reassured about a place that can project the kinds of things this one does in broad daylight?
